Structured cabling

Everything else rides on cable, and cable rides on pathways that are decided in the architectural and electrical drawings long before any low-voltage contractor is hired. We make sure the sleeves, conduit, tray and closet space are there, and that the cable that goes into them is tested and documented.

What we do

  • Pathway review: conduit, tray, sleeves, riser and closet space checked against the device schedule
  • Cable schedule and labelling standard set before tender
  • Separation from power, bend radius and fill checked on the drawings
  • Firestopping responsibilities identified trade by trade
  • Specification of category, testing and certification requirements
  • Rough-in inspection with photographs before drywall
  • Certification results reviewed at closeout; as-built cable schedule verified
Design and review only. We do not sell or install the equipment, which is what keeps the specification neutral. If a project needs an installer, we help you find and evaluate one, then check their work against the design.

Where it applies

New constructionRough-in sequenced with the electrical contractor so nothing is fished later.
Tenant improvementsCabling to the tenant's layout, coordinated with the base building.
Occupied retrofitsRoutes chosen to keep disruption to residents to a minimum.
Homes & luxury homesPre-wire during framing for everything that might ever be wanted — it costs little then and a great deal later.

Start with the drawings.

A set of plans, a building that needs a new system, or a house still on paper — any of those is the right place to begin.
